When he grows up

What will Burrito decide to be when he grows up?
I can't wait to see.

He's practicing being a Priest.
He's working on his home run average for the major leagues.
He's in a band.

And lately....He's working on his Crime Boss intimidation tactics.

The Witch of Portebello

The Witch of Portebello is the third Paulo Coehlo novel I have read.  I have to say that The Alchemist, so far, is still my favorite.

The Witch of Portebello describes the life leading up to the death of the main character, Athena, through a handful of people who interacted with her.  Narrators include her adoptive mother, her ex-husband, a journalist, a priest, her landlord, her teacher, and an actress.  While I had enjoyed the storyline, I actually had a hard time following parts because the narrator switched so often.  I found myself needing to flip back a couple pages to remind myself who was detailing that specific part of the story.

There are quite a few hidden references to Christianity and Catholicism that I didn't recognize at first.  I guess, just as in high school English class, I have proven that I am blind to allegory writing.  I get so tangled up in the characters and their lives that I miss out on the big-arm-waving-this-symbolizes-this picture.

I did enjoy the plot though, except I found myself being annoyed at Athena.  She seemed so stand-offish to the journalist who so obviously is in love with her.  I thought for sure that their conflict would resolve itself and be an either happily ever after or bittersweet end, but it was neither.  I actually found myself on the last page thinking "That's It?"  and having to re-read the pair's last scene together.

I recommend reading the Alchemist, then if you liked it, give this one a go....maybe you could explain some of the bigger picture ideas to me.

What do you do with an idle Sunday?

Here's what happened in my backyard last Sunday.  I was in charge of general design and painting (both red and green).  we are loving it!!

p.s. There have been no broken bones....yet.

p.p.s.  Please excuse the weeds, I'm gonna have to fire the landscape girl.  She obviously isn't doing her job.

p.p.p.s The audio is crappy because it was windy....but the argument you are missing is the girl asking her dad (now that the seesaw is done) to build a giant tree house.  Heehee I laughed...you can too.

Hot Wheels

The GirlChild has been forlornly staring out the front window watching the neighborhood children ride their bikes in the street for the last 6 months.
She got a scooter for Christmas which she loved until she realized it had three wheels and ALL THE COOL KIDS have scooters with TWO wheels....c'mon mom.

So, The boy took a hand me down bike from Molly, repainted it, Emma-fied it up, and he gave it to her for her birthday.

Here's the maiden voyage, the funniest part (to me, the mother here) is Burrito zooming past Emma on foot.  Cracks me up every time.

p.s. Sorry about the sound...crazy windy that day.
Have you noticed how weird the weather's been lately?

One Step Closer

Look what I learned to do

My very first Granny square....which really was just the old pros at Knitting club teaching me how to crochet so I can make this for my bestie. (And The Boy too...he has requested one for his dashboard).

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

I can finally say I've been to a Reno Aces game now.

The four of us went to an Aces vs River Cats game (final score 8-11).   I'd say a good time was had by all.

We double dated with The Boy's eldest brother and his family.

There was candy, soda, peanuts, snow cones to be consumed.

Oh...and baseball to be spectated, naturally.

We got to watch the game from the Morrey Distributing Suite.

How cool is that?!

Except now, we have been thoroughly spoiled and it will be hard to go to another game and sit in the regular seats.
You know.
The Suite had a kitchen, complete with couches, a TV, and room for the kids to run around and be goofy.
Which they were.

I was a little nervous about the balcony part, seeing as how the kids liked to hang over the edge....I think I was most nervous about the unsuspecting innocents that were seated below us.

This is the part where Burrito tries desperately to convince Uncle Matt that neon green snakes DO indeed belong at baseball games....and that snakes bite.

Maybe we'll make it to a few more games in the future.  I bet the games will be just as good from the cheap seats.

(And I like my dogs with mustard and relish)

Ye Be Warned!!!!

When Burrito says he's going to put his mustache on.....He means it.  Which means YOU (that's right you...you sitting right there) might not want to play with the Mr. Potato Head mustache, because well....it's been UP his nose.

Just Sayin'

And You're Welcome.

I have a confession

I'm in love with a girl!

This one, right here (FisherGirl)!

I could lick her like an ice cream cone.  Just kidding.  A little.  Maybe.  So a few months ago, the husband and I went out clubbin'.  Except you can't really call it clubbin' because we are talking about Fallon here.  And there is all of ONE place to go in town to drink, smoke, dance, be scandalous....you know, typical 20's single-type behavior.
Of which we aren't really...but that's not really to point here.
Anyway.

For one reason or another, the boy-parts of our group decided they were too cool for dancing.
So it was just the girls.
Dancing.
Giggling.
Having an old-fashioned good time.
And then it was 2am.
And the boy-parts were ready to leave.
So we did.

All the way home, I blathered on about how much fun, how friendly, how amazing FisherGirl was.
And all the while the husband is nodding and agreeing and making sure he doesn't say anything that might be used against him later...

Well, now I am fresh off the bachelorette party weekend with FisherGirl and I am more in love than ever.
She willingly donned the pink camo lingerie we gave her and wore it the whole night (that's brave right there!).
There was dancing.
Lots of dancing.
Some good, some we just made up.
We attempted line dances we had no idea how to do.
We stayed out 'til the sun came up.
In a few short weeks, she'll be Mrs FisherGirl, I'm excited that she'll be part of the extended family, and you better believe I'll be dancing with her at the wedding!

Taking A Moment...

This was a whirlwind weekend for me.  By Sunday night I was ready for some back porch relaxing with a couple of favorite girls.

And this guy....cause he's cute and snuggly and entertaining (see below)

He gave all his favorite girls pedicures (after he did his own of course)!
