Missing the bandwagon

Have you read Born to Run yet?  If not, you should check it out.  Even if you are not a runner, it's an interesting read.  The book mentions that Chia seeds, you little bits of energy gold just waiting for you to eat them and be fast like lightning.

Or something like that.

There are quite a few recipes out there for making bars or muffins with them.  But lets be honest here.  I'm lazy.  And so I opted to try just letting the seeds soak in water with a little honey and lemon juice or something and then drinking them down.

Oh. my. gross.
I am epic failing at jumping on the chia bandwagon.  All I can think about when I look at these swollen balls of goo are salmon eggs.  Like on sushi, or in my family history, being stored (for far too long) in the motor home bath tub as easily accessible fish bait.
I found some websites on the internet that say you can soak them in water and then add them to whatever you'd like.
To your breakfast smoothie....sure.
To your spaghetti sauce...why not.
To your oatmeal....go for it.

And now I'm wondering if you soak them in gin like you do with raisins for arthritis, would it work out the same?  Except I don't like gin.  So that's a problem.

And has anyone really tried that vodka soaked gummy bear recipe that's floating around pinterest right now?

After trying them several times and having the package mock me from the kitchen counter for 6 months, I have donated them to the sister-in-law.  She wanted them for her yogurt.

I wished the seeds good riddance and her good luck!  I'll have to find something else to make me a speedier runner.

The last time I went running...

Trying not to get my hopes up too much but I think I might be released to try running again in 4 weeks.  I figured I'd spend my time updating the old playlist.

The last run I did looked like this:
AC DC - Damned
Motion City Soundtrack - Always Running Out of Time
Ashlee Simpson - Pieces of Me
Avril Lavigne - Contagious
Avril Lavigne - My World
Bare Naked Ladies - For You
Blackhawk - Just About Right
Brian McComas - It all Comes Flooding Down (couldn't find a better link)
Cardigans - Good Horse
Carolyn Dawn Johnson - Simple Life
Counting Crows - Friend of the Devil
Counting Crows - Hard Candy
Dierks Bentley - Prodigal Son
He is We - Happily Ever After
India Arie - I Choose
Julie Roberts - Girl Next Door (it was either this one or Miley...sorry!)
Len - Steal My Sunshine

There's some non-traditional, but good tempo songs in there.

I'm thinking about adding a little Rob Zombie, Imagine Dragons, and Pitbull to the rotation.

What's on your playlist?

Pretty Please

Please may I have chocolate milk?

Please can Piper sleep with me tonight?

Please can you get the star wars Legos out?

Please can I stay up just a little bit longer?

Oh, I've seen that look a hundred times, and now all the Disneyland employees get it too.
I wondered why every time someone scanned Bob's card they started laughing.
This is his annual pass picture.
 It's a keeper I'd say!

Snow Days

It hasn't snowed enough to really get a "snow day" called but we have been lucky enough to be able to wake up early on Saturday morning and enjoy the snow.  We haven't gotten any really good snowman making snow yet....there's still time I think.

I could kiss those cheeks!

I had a few more good ones with the kids trying to sled down the hill in the backyard but blogger is doing weird things with their photo upload...dang!

The Last Few Weeks

The boys went fishing at Pyramid and caught some tasty dinner!
Emma got to help gut the fish...she loved it.

New Year's Eve brought the tooth fairy AND....

I learned how to make hot tamales from one of my favorite people in the whole world

The sweet ladies at church made me a prayer shawl,
which Emma promptly claimed as her own.

The boy turned 33.
We celebrated with a mocha bacon brownie.
Which is about as un-confetti chip cake as it gets.

Oh, those tiny feet

Bob puts his shoes on the wrong feet.
every time.

2013 Goals

The push this year is for accountable goals instead of vague resolutions.
And my push is for a short and achievable list.

Here it goes:

1. Run again.

I feel like this one needs to be vague, but I'll try to make it as specific as possible.  I want to run again.  The doctor said that between 4 and 6 months I could start trying to jog short distances.  I AM registered for the 2013 Reno Tahoe Odyssey again (it's at the end of May).  So I guess that's the ultimate time goal.  I'm hoping to be able to run a 10K distance by the rock n river weekend (early May).  I think this might just be the opportunity I was looking for to get Emma to be my running buddy.  I will have to do lots of run/walking in the beginning and she could keep pace with me if she wanted to.

2. Be a more consistent FIT class student.

At least twice a week, every week.

3. Reclaim Sundays as lazy, stay home days.

I'm sure laundry will still happen but I intend to spend more time with those I love most whether it be movies, board games, or going on adventures outside somewhere together.
