Sharing the Abundance

Thanks to last year's mild winter, there were blossoms and tiny fruit on both the peach and cherry tree in our backyard this spring.  And then one week in June we had a few very blustery days and the wind blew all of the peaches off of the tree.

It was a sad day.

But thanks to my sister we get to enjoy peaches after all.

We spent the afternoon in Smith Valley, picking peaches, visiting cousins, and enjoying ribs.
A perfect day if you ask me.

What to do with all the peaches that came home?

I quite like this
If ever you liked upside down cake you must try this (we left the almonds out)
We tried two different grilled peaches recipes that both were pretty tasty, but I still want to try this one

Tut Tut It Looks Like Rain

The best part of these 100 degree days is the afternoon thunderstorms they bring.
It calls for taking a break from weeding and riding bikes
and running for shelter on the porch.
They never last long,
which is probably why they are my favorite.

Lucky Dog

So the boy had some business to do last weekend up in Alaska.  Which also happened to be our 10th anniversary.  Kind of a big deal.  So he figured out how I could tag along, and we headed up to Juneau sans kids for 4 days.

I'd say this trip was equally as fun and carefree as our honeymoon to Disneyland was 10 years ago.  Minus the just married on the back of the car and all the horn honking.

Here are just a few pictures from the weekend.

Tracy's King Crab Shack.  Sorry Joe's....this might be my new favorite!!

Now that the summer is coming to an end, we are filling our days with back to school shopping, lounging under the cooler to survive the heat, and killing time till it's apple hill season.

Recentering

Hey Bob, let's go outside and wait for sister to finish gymnastics.

Hey Bob, what are you doing?

Things you might miss

Some things are in plain sight
and you still might just float on by
without ever really seeing them

My funny little bird man

After a solid three weeks of begging I caved in and got the boychild some water wings.

And you know what, he swims pretty dang good with them on.

He hasn't quite figured out the breathing routine for the snorkel but we'll get there.

Someday.

Growing Girlchild

I sent the girlchild on a road trip without me.  She traveled 2,000 miles and 30-something hours in the car to soak up some good old fashioned, midwest fun.

So this is what it's like to be six and on summer vacation, away from home.

Not so outdoors-y

Mom, you should have brought my hiking shoes.

I did Bob, you said you wanted to wear your sandals.

Well, I didn't know there would be quite so much sand on the trail.

Splashing into Summer

Seems funny how much a difference one year makes in swimming confidence.  I guess that's all part of growing up.

I'd appreciate it if they could slow down just a little.

Cannonball!

An epic water fight
